Palimpsest, written by Catherynne M. Valente, is a complex, surreal, and lyrical journey of four strangers connected by a mystical city accessed only during sleep. The book weaves the tales of Sei, November, Ludovico, and Oleg whose lives are intertwined after they share a strange, intimate experience that marks them with a tattoo of a map leading to the dream city. In this city, they encounter various mystical creatures, twisted architecture, and erotic imageries. To fully become a citizen of this transient city, one has to rewrite their past, creating a palimpsest of their own life.
