The book, ‘Parasite’, penned by Mira Grant, introduces us to a near future where humanity’s health is controlled by a genetically engineered tapeworm. Sally, the protagonist, had been in a car accident and has no memory of her life before the accident. Her only solace is her tapeworm, which is designed to keep her healthy. However, as people around her start behaving oddly, she begins to suspect her ‘symbiont’. The book is a chilling combination of science fiction and medical thriller which leads us to question our trust in health providers.
